SEVERN VALLEY INDOOR BOWLING CLUB.
BASED AT ‘The Flash’ leisure centre, Welshpool
Severn Valley Indoor Bowling Club was formed in 1993 and is based at ‘The Flash’ Leisure in Welshpool. It is part of the Leisure Centre complex run by Freedom Leisure. The bowls hall is a four-rink hall with a recently laid blue carpet. Severn Valley IBC operates as a ‘non-profit’ organisation and membership is open to anyone in the surrounding district.
Severn Valley IBC operates between the months of October and March and provides a variety of bowling opportunities to its members.
In the afternoons on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, a series of league games are organised for retired people of the surrounding area. This operates between 2.00 and 4.00.p.m. In the evening the club concentrates on running an evening league on a Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7.00 and 9.00.p.m. This league is made up of 7 teams drawn from the surrounding area and utilising many players who play outdoors in the summer months.
A League cup is an annual event as are a wide range of evening competitions, some of these competitions are linked to the national competitions for ladies and men under the wing of the newly formed WIBA.
The club also takes part in the local Northern Zone competitions at Senior and Open level playing teams from Ffrith and Flint on a Saturday morning throughout the indoor season. The senior Competition is linked to a national WIBA competition involving clubs from across Wales.
The club has produced several players who have gone on to represent Wales at various levels and competed in the National competitions.
